There are many ways in which to filter your aquatic tank. So, here is an explanation of the options available when designing your dream aquarium.
SIMPLE FILTRATION: If no filtration option or built-in overflow is needed when you puchase your tank, there will be a standard filtration slot and two power head holes in the top of your aquarium. This aquarium configuration can work with either a Hang-On Filtration System or a Canister Filtration System.
BUILT-IN FILTRATION: With a Built-In Filtration System, all the needed filtration components will be built into the back of your tank by our tank manufacturer. This system is great for making set-up a breeze. Simply add water, fish and plug in the electrical cord and you are ready to go! If you wish to have a salt-water, fish only environment, simply add the Protein Skimmer option to your Built-In Filtration System. It's just that easy! Below is a link to a diagram illustrating the Built-In Filtration System components:
SUMP FILTRATION: Some tank manufacturers can provide a complete, Deluxe Sump Filtratration System with ease! This is an all-inclusive system that has modification made to the sump for all needed filtration components. This system also includes the overflow(s) necessary for your aquarim size and gallons. Plus, there is normally a step-by-step installation manual that walks you through the entire set-up process. If your aquarium is going to be either a salt water or reef set-up, simply add our Protein Skimmer Package and you will be set. There are typically several different types of Sump Filtration Packages that are available. Your aquarium size and gallons will trigger which type of Sump Filtration System is necessary. Below is a link to a diagram illustrating one of the Deluxe Sump Filtration Systems:
BUILT-IN OVERFLOW: For those of you that currently have a sump filtration system that is appropriate for your new aquarium, then just an overflow configuration is required. In this case, you can add the appropriate overflow(s) to your tank.
DRAIN SILENCER: There is typically an optional drain silencer(s) available for either the Deluxe Sump Filtration System or Built-In Overflow Option. The drain silencer greatly reduces the noise as dirty water gravity feeds below to your sump via the drain hole in your overflow area. Ask your specialist the correct number of drain silencers necessary for your setup.
